stool
The inspiration for this project was my father-in-law who was hit by a car and needed reconstructive surgery on his legs. When he puts on his shoes, he sits on the floor because it’s too hard on his legs to bend. I set out to design a stool that assists him in putting on his shoes.
The stool I designed has a shelf for storage. The construction is a combination of joinery with no hardware. Model 1 is made of poplar and Model 2 is made of beech. I designed a slatted shelf to reduce the visual weight so the stool maintains a light and airy aesthetic while still being functional as a stool and storage.
